On Saturday, I ran in my first "official" 5k run. The Gator Run was truly a great experience. I wasn't sure if I would be able to run that day due to potential obligations for my coursework but I got out there with a few friends and did it.
The run was put together and coordinated through the University of Florida Alumni Association and I believed it was a great success and a lot of fun.
I have run unofficial 5ks before through my training but really enjoyed having a runners bib that included my number. Running alongside 1500 plus students certainly gave me a boost of adrenaline and wasn't even tired after I finished my run.
I will continue to train up until the end of February for a possible run at a half marathon. I am also approaching accomplishing my goal of running 40 miles this month. More posts and pictures to come!

Keeping Up With My Resolution
Since the start of the spring semester I have gotten back to my pre-holiday weight and sit at just ten pounds away from my end goal.
Despite class, work, and figuring out a routine I have been regularly going to the gym and running. Once I am comfortable with my routine I will amp my workouts and hope to be at my goal weight by the end of February and will be ready to enjoy my spring break.
I have been lifting weights about three times a week working on chest, back, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. Following the weight lifting session, I go out for a distance run. On the days where I don't lift weights at the gym, I run about one to two miles then run stadiums at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Down another 17lbs!
Just wanted to say that I apologize for not posting more frequently. I have been really busy with sports reporting and my TV news shifts.
Since my last blog post, I have dropped another 17 lbs and currently tip the scales at 171lbs. I have run several 5Ks and am excited about my progress as I have dramatically cut down on my time from around 31 minutes from my first attempt to a time of 25:03 on the most recent one yesterday morning.
I also surprised my family by coming home this weekend. My mom and dad had no idea I was coming home but my sister was in on the secret. It was wonderful to see everyone again and a great feeling to field all the compliments on how I look.
Ate a little more than I should've this weekend, but that's what happens when you reunite with your family for a short weekend reunion.

It's Great to Be a Lean Gator!
My name is Michael Cadigan and I am currently a Junior at the University of Florida studying Telecommunication-News with the dream of becoming a sports broadcaster. Now that you know a little about it me, it is time to tell you about the purpose of this blog.
I have struggled with weight in the past. Ever since the second grade, my weight continued to creep up until the point in late June when I weighed 228 pounds. I realized I had a problem and made it my goal to lose the weight and keep it off. I downloaded an app called Lose It! on my iPhone in order to count calories and the Nike running app to begin my transformation. After 3 and half months of counting calories, running, and weight lifting, I have dropped 40LBS so far.
I will continue to post about my ongoing transformation and the sprint to my goal weight. I'll include pictures, videos, links to workouts and articles and much much more. I encourage you to sign up for a free account on Lose It!.If you have any questions feel free to follow me on Twitter at @michaelcadigan.
